5 minute takeaway: Ephesians 6

I was praying, asking God to teach me HOW to resist sin and flee from temptation.

Immediately there verses came to mind.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak. Ephesians 6:10-20

I know that's long but here's the thing. The answer to my question of HOW is: Simple. Obvious. Not complicated.

Here are five takeaways:

1. We live by the strength of God's might.

Um, whoa! Why try to go it alone? God is perfectly strong. I am not. He's on my side. Therefore I try to go it alone? Nah, I choose His might.

2. We need ALL the armour.

One piece will help but together - fully covered - we can win! We can beat our sinful desires.

3. If peace isn't something we are known for, um ....... that's a concern.

This one sticks out to me because I'm noticing patterns of division occurring in my life. This isn't the way of God! He is not for division. He is the God of unity and therefore when we go for division instead of peace, I think that's sin!

Fit your feet with peace to spread the Gospel.

If your actions aren't spreading peace, I wonder if maybe you should cease fire.

4. Faith is our best defender and offense against the Devil.

Pray for belief!

5. Keep alert always! Always!!!

We can resist sin when we try to resist sin. But when we're ignorant of the fact that there is a battle, we lose.

This took me five minutes, to examine the scripture and think of ways to live it out. And the scriptures came to my mind as I prayed because I knew them. That's probably takeaway 6:

Know the Word of God. It will help you!

What about you? What takeaway am I missing? I'm sure a lot! I hope so. Comment and let me know!

I hope you can read the Word of God and see application after application after application because His word is our lamp, our sword to fight. Use it.
